Transition Joints for Aluminium Smelters & Metals
In aluminium reduction cells, the joint between aluminium rods and steel anode assemblies carries enormous currents at high temperature. Triconnect® is an explosion-welded steel–titanium–aluminium joint that keeps electrical resistance low and stable, extending anode life.
Applications
- Anode and cathode blocks in aluminium and magnesium smelters
- Busbar connections between aluminium and steel or copper
- Steel plants and heavy industry wear and transition parts
Triconnect® performance
- Performs up to 600 °C
- Low electrical resistance, lower energy use
- Layer build-up 38.1 mm steel / 1.5 mm titanium / 12.7 mm aluminium, sized to order
- Trusted by Emirates Global Aluminium, Alba, Hydro Aluminium, GFG Alliance and Aldel
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is a titanium layer used in anode transition joints?
Titanium separates the steel from the aluminium, preventing brittle iron-aluminium intermetallics at high temperature so the joint stays strong and conductive.
What temperature can Triconnect® handle?
Up to 600 °C.
